Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya | Wander with Wonder

Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya is the ideal adult-only escape for spring. The all-inclusive Cancun resort offers stunning beach views and amazing cuisine. Read on for why you must visit this luxurious beachfront resort.

As the soft air of the Caribbean wafts through the palm trees and into the open-air lobby, I felt my stress melt away. The Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya is an adults-only all-inclusive resort in Cancun on the pristine beaches near Playa del Carmen. After a recent visit, I am back to share why it needs to be your winter or spring escape with its stunning beach views, all nestled among the tropical landscape. Between the beautiful stretch of beach, the understated design, and the amazing food, it was the perfect antidote to winter.

Gathering Areas at the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya

When you disembark your airport transportation, the open-air ambiance envelopes you in peace and serenity. The check-in desk continues that with its woody-scented aromatherapy and welcome drinks.

The two-story lobby offers views of the resort pool and the turquoise-hued Caribbean beyond. The resort continues its connection to nature with the call of birds audible throughout the property and many plants in the common areas. The neutral palette takes its design influences from nature with lots of seating to enjoy the gathering spaces, from the lobby-level Social Mixology Bar to the Grand Staircase. The Grand Staircase makes a perfect backdrop for photos.

The Rooms at Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya

This property offers 291 rooms that each boast an understated and luxurious retreat for some well-deserved alone time. As I entered my room, I immediately noticed the travertine marble under my feet after I kicked off my shoes. It instantly soothed my travel-weary feet.

As I entered the sleeping space, the king-sized bed dazzled with its pristine white bedding and a large ceiling fan overhead. In fact, with its secluded location, I could turn off the air-conditioning, turn on the fan during my January visit, and fall asleep to the sound of the Caribbean outside. It is my favorite way to fall asleep; no sound machine is required. My room at the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya was outfitted with a blue tooth speaker, alarm clock, and charging port beside the bed. Thanks to the complimentary wifi, I easily connected my phone to enjoy my music service. The rooms feature a mini-bar with Mexican beer, Coca-Cola products, sparkling water, and complimentary bottled water. In addition, I used the Nespresso coffee maker in the morning for an excellent cup of espresso with the china cups provided.

The Bathroom

Each room has a spa-like bathroom donning marble surfaces and a large glass-enclosed shower with two separate shower heads, including a large rain shower head. Though the shower’s most daring feature is the floor-to-ceiling window onto the room. If the room’s drapes are open, ocean-view rooms offer a glimpse of the pool and a peak of the Caribbean beyond. It’s a wow bathroom statement. The marble vanity features two sinks, a well-lighted mirror, and a separate make-up mirror. The bathroom offers a separate water closet as well.

Right outside of the bathroom, I found a bank of closet space outfitted with all the necessities, like an iron and board, an in-room safe, a scale, an umbrella, and a pair of white plush robes along with slippers. The closet offers space for hanging clothes and shelves for folded items.

The Hyatt Zilara has ocean-view rooms along with resort and tropical-view rooms. The resort recently added 46 swim-up rooms with a resort or tropical view. For the ultimate experience, six suites offer a plunge pool and views of the ocean beyond.

Dining at Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya

With four restaurants on the property, guests can indulge during their stay, and I did. I enjoyed regional Mexican cuisine along with the tastes of Mediterranean and regional Italian cuisine. Additionally, I upped my mixology skills at a specialty class taught by the resort’s bar manager and an award-winning mixologist.

Lola Beach

When I first arrived at the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya, I headed to the Lola Beach Restaurant with its open-air dining. I was famished after my early nonstop flight. With a menu showcasing the regional flavors of Mexico, I ordered a margarita on the rocks and fish tacos. My dining companion ordered the ceviche. Before our appetizer and drinks could be delivered, our waitress handed us a pineapple paleta, or fresh fruit Mexican popsicle—muy refreshing.

My fish tacos were served on street-taco-sized blue corn tortillas. The fish was crispy, tender, and served with a zesty slaw and pickled onions. The ceviche was expertly made, a specialty of the region. Guests will want to try the many margaritas at Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya. I started with an original and then sampled a spicy margarita next. Behind the Lola Beach Restaurant, its bar overlooks the sand and is a popular space for live entertainment in the evening.

For guests craving the flavors of the Far East, The Tempest is an Asian fusion restaurant. With three options, diners can choose sushi, hibachi dining at the teppan table, or order from the a la carte menu. The hibachi experience fuses food with entertainment as the chef creates dinner on the flat-top grill. It is a fun activity, especially if traveling with a group. Reservations are required for the hibachi table and sushi bar because of limited seating. Tempest is open for dinner only.

Capri Grille

The Capri Grille is the destination for modern Italian and Mediterranean dishes while enjoying its sophisticated dining room. During my stay, I enjoyed a private dining experience with a menu created by the chef. It is an excellent way to entertain guests in a separate room and dedicated waitstaff.

El Comedor

The El Comedor might be the best way to start the day when you and your companion have varied food tastes. With an international buffet, El Comedor offers an extensive breakfast and lunch buffet. With rotating entrees, the experience is evolving yet satisfying for the culinarily adventurous, yet offers the familiar as well. El Comedor opens the buffet at 7 am. Dinner is themed and changes with the day. El Comedor offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

Coffee Republic

The Coffee Republic is perfect for to-go coffee and pastries on an excursion day. I grabbed a barista-made cappuccino and a tender almond croissant before loading into my transportation to Tulum for a cultural excursion.  The Coffee Republic is perfect for a pick-me-up during the afternoon and evening. The Ferraro Roche gelato is a decadent treat and shouldn’t be missed. A churro cart was open for the freshly made Mexican treat during my stay. The Coffee Republic is open for extended dining from 6 am to 11 pm.

In Room Dining

The Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya offers complimentary 24-hour in-room dining with a selection of resort favorites. I ordered breakfast, and it arrived within 15 minutes. Its Mexican coffee was hot and delicious.

Cocktails at the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya

Enjoying an expertly crafted cocktail or a glass of bubbles is a favorite indulgence of mine. The Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya offers several spaces to enjoy a drink, from its beach area and pool to the mixologist classes taught throughout the week.

The lobby level is the place for the most inventive cocktails. The Social bar is a favorite for happy hour, and this is where I enjoyed a mixology class. During my class, I mixed several drinks like a Negroni with smokey flavors of the region. Then I shook a berry cocktail that mixed gin with house-made bitters and a fruit puree.

Next to the pool, the swings on the deck side of Olas are a favorite. It took several attempts to find an empty swing. This is the place for piña coladas, mojitos, and margaritas in every color of the rainbow.

Legends Sports Bar

This is the destination to catch the big game with a TV. It offers a large bar menu along with an appetizer menu. It is open till 1 am.

Activities at the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya

The Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya offers one main pool divided by a pair of bridges. Flanked by lots of loungers and private cabanas, the pool is a focal point of the resort. The pool is outfitted with sporting equipment for classes and games during the day. In addition, the Olas Bar offers a swim-up area for in-pool cocktails. Next to the pool, guests will find a hot tub.

During the day, guests can experience sophisticated activities, like a mixology class specializing in Mexican cocktails. Or welcome the day at the sunrise yoga on its secluded beach. I did this, and it was easy enough for a novice. The Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya offers a gym and water-based classes in the main pool. From water aerobics classes to its pool-based spin class, guests can try a new activity or enjoy a favorite in a new landscape. The tennis courts are located next to the Zen Spa.

Zen Spa

For a dose of me time, guests can arrange a spa treatment at the Zen Spa in its tropical setting with a covered pool featuring hydrotherapy. The spa offers both body treatments along with salon services.

It is a short walk from the lobby, and golf cart transportation is available. At the Zen Spa, the tropical landscape and the call of its birds surround each guest in a serene setting.

When You Visit Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya

Overall, I love the sophisticated yet laid-back vibe of the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya. This is not the resort if a scene is required. I found it the ideal respite from adulting. At this all-inclusive resort in Cancun, couples lounged at the pool, reading books or sipping cocktails. Some would venture into a mild workout class. Though, as the sun set, most would slip on resort wear for dinner and a cocktail. The vibrating dance clubs and rowdy bargoers were missing, and I was completely fine with that. Use Wander With Wonder when planning your next trip to the Caribbean or Mexico for a sun-drenched spring break vacation.
