A Look At Our Real Melbourne City Bike Tour Experience

As luck had it, we picked an absolutely beautiful 🌞 summer like day in February, for our bike tour. The day before it was cool and raining, but on this day, it was perfect for a bicycle ride!

We were fortunate to have Murray as our guide for the day, along with another couple visiting from Germany.
After a brief safety introduction and meeting our fellow guests, we were on our way along the banks of the Yarrow River.

Murray explained that we will be making several stops along the way and will be visiting some of the cities; scenic parks, gardens, markets, multicultural neighbors and more.
Murray is a former longtime journalist and newspaper editor in Melbourne, his knowledge of the city and its history is extensive.

Your guide will make stops along the way, outlining some of the cities history while on your bike tour.

National Gallery Of Victoria

After getting warmed up cycling the beautiful riverfront promenade, we crossed over the pedestrian bridge, making our way to our first stop at the -🏛 National Gallery of Victoria.
Murray wanted to make sure we had the opportunity to take a quick look and 📸 photo of the beautiful water mural display outside the building.
As well, to check out some exhibits and its amazing stained glass ceiling inside the building.
The museum is located directly across from the beautiful -🏞 King’s Domain City Park and 💐 Botanical Gardens.
Queen Victoria Monument And Gardens

Just across the way, we made our next stop beside the – Queen Victoria Monument. When she died in 1901, the City of Melbourne proposed a memorial to her.
Today, this beautiful monument is surrounded by raised 🌹 gardens, in a lovely park setting.
King’s Domain City Park

We then made our way from the Museum, entering this gorgeous city park and gardens next door.
A perfect opportunity for 📸 photos and stroll through parts of this lovely park, with our bikes in hand.
This park is 36 hectares in size and for obvious reasons, a favorite among locals. We were so glad to be able to see this part of the city, on this beautiful summer like day!

Rod Laver Arena And Rugby Stadium

We then cycled onward to the cities main sports complexes, playing fields and sports museum.
Without paying much attention and just enjoying the sites, Murray led the way taking us back across the – Yarrow River, to this part of the city.

Stopping at select locations, Murray explained in detail about Australia’s most popular professional sporting event, that takes place at their 🏟 Massive Stadium – 🏉 Australian Football!

It was easy to tell he has a passion for the sport, because he even had a 🏉 ball packed in his saddle bag, to show us and throw around. 🙂

After riding around and stopping at the stadium and arena, it was time to cycle onward towards the very popular – Queen Victoria Market.
Only open until early afternoon, this busy market was a must see attraction and where we would be having lunch.

Along the way, our guide led us along various residential streets, passing by parks and some beautiful buildings with – unique architecture.
All making for some great 📸 photo opportunities!
Messina Gelato Ice Cream

As we cycled along some of Melbourne’s multicultural and popular neighborhoods, Murray made a stop at an extremely popular and well known 🍦 ice cream parlor, in this part of the city.
Their specialty is serving Real Italian Gelato ice cream.

What a special treat, we were not expecting at all and the ice cream was amazing!
After enjoying a rich 🍦 ice cream cone, it was a little difficult getting back on the bikes again. 🙂
It was on to the Market, to give us time to browse and enjoy lunch before its closing.
Queen Victoria Market

Queen Victoria Market has been around since 1878 and is a major attraction in the city, for both locals and tourists alike.
This Amazing Market is definitely – Not To Be Missed, when visiting the City of Melbourne!
It is your go to place for; fresh and specialty produce, hand-made and unique products, great food from historic vendors and so much more!
We were so happy to have the opportunity to visit, on our short visit to the city while on this bike tour.

There were tables outside and Murray put together an outstanding picnic lunch for us. He knew just where to go, selecting some excellent pastry items, fruit and more from the deli’s inside the market.
What a wonderful personal touch Murray adds to his bike tours. I’m quite sure you would be hard pressed to find this level of personal service given, most anywhere. 🙂

Continuing on cruising the city streets and side roads, we weaved our way through some picturesque neighborhoods, making brief stops along the way.
Murray filled us in on some of the history of the area, the unique businesses in operation and much more.

Definitely something you would not find on your own, without a local guide. Like old street cars on a roof and quaint corner lot recreational trailer eateries, for starters.
Some very cool and unique districts and neighborhoods, you will discover taking this tour.

We had a wonderful day and time spent with our guide Murray and fellow travelers on this tour.
If you enjoy the outdoors and eco-friendly adventure tours, this bike tour is a “Must Do” when visiting the City of Melbourne.
